Since little man was born, we strive to give Daddy some sort of a sweet treat for Father’s Day, as well as a small, non-bank-breaking gift. Since the husband’s office is a bit of a disaster area, I try to steer clear of the handmade & photo gifts. I know this sounds crazy since it’s Father’s Day and he’s supposed to get a really cute gift made by his child; but I just know any such gift will end up sitting in an office that he hardly ever uses {except for storage}. So, we usually try to stick with gifts like a nice work notebook, a book that he’s been wanting, an electronic accessory, or food of course.
Now on to how you can make an Oreo Cookie Cake for the special Father in your life.
Ingredients:
7 packs of Oreo cookies – I used 3 1/2 packs of each color {281 cookies}
1 tube of Cake Make white icing
Small icing tip
1. Find a pan, plate, or platter that is approximately the size you would like the bottom layer of your Oreo cake to be. I used a brown pizza pan we had on hand…kind of manly right? Place your Oreo’s in a single layer on the pan to make sure they will fit correctly.
2. Once you have your pattern laid out, ‘glue’ the Oreo’s onto the pan using your icing. I like to cover the Oreo logo in the middle of the cookies, but maybe I’m just a little particular like that.
*Be careful, until the icing dries, the cookies will not be completely stable.
3. Here, you can go one of two ways. You can either go my way, or Martha’s way. I stacked the cookies on top of one another, and Martha staggered them. I do love the look of Martha’s cake, but mine is a little easier because you don’t have to lay out each layer’s pattern before gluing. For each cake tier, I used 2 rows of original Oreos & 2 rows of Golden Chocolate Creme cookies.
4. Move in one cookie for every new tier you make. When you get to the top, place 4 Oreo’s tightly together on top of the last tier, then 2 single cookies stacked on top. *See the pictures below for a better idea.
*Here’s a cute variation: Using cake topping letters and icing as glue, write out ‘Happy Father’s Day’ on the bottom 2 cookie layers!
Send me your adorable Father’s Day cookie cakes – I can’t wait to see them!
