Last month we joined in with the outside play – chalk party and enjoyed it so much that we have joined in again. This month we are cohosting a Outside Play – Water party.
I love water – I’m a water baby and so are J and T. So last year when T was only 5 months old and J coming up to 2 we were asked what to get J for his birthday and the top of the list – a water table. I’ve seen some gorgeous DIY one’s and indoors we use the old baby bath for water play – however for outside I wanted one that was purpose built and we could add sand etc… with.
Water is such an important part of our outdooor play that we have used the water table year around. In the winter I filled it with warm water and J and T played in it. As Spring and Summer (I believe we’ve had a few days) we have added water and I just leave J and T to play in it – free play is vital for children and this is one thing that I can guarantee that they will play happily at for hours.
I’ve seen it be used as a pirate lake, had sand and mud added to it in a mud making experiment or so J told me he was doing, used to make cake with stones, sand, grass and daisies and just played with. T loves filling up containers with the water and then pouring it out again.
It’s such a simple thing and yet it’s being one of our best presents and I can just see the imaginative play get more intricate as they both get older.
