Trick or Treat Safety Tips

October 31, 2012 By Sam 2 Comments

I hope all of you have a fun time trick-or-treating & giving out candy tonight. Little man is {of course} going to be a shark, the husband is Mayhem from Allstate & I’m Flo from Progressive. My mom is in town, so she’ll be participating in all of the festivities with us tonight. Little man’s cousin is also coming with us. She’s only 5 months old, so she’s really just along for the ride, but she’ll be adorable {pictures to come on Facebook & Twitter}.

As fun as Halloween can be, I want to share a few safety tips & tricks with you all.

From the CDC

  • Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short, soft & flexible.
  • Avoid trick-or-treating alone.
  • Examine all treats for choking hazards & tampering before eating them.
  • Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating & WALK {don’t run} from house to house.
  • Use crosswalks wherever possible.
  • Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers.
  • Only visit well-lit houses.
  • Never accept rides from strangers.
  • Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes & never walk near lit candles or luminaries.

From the Red Cross

  • Add reflective tape to costumes and trick or treat bags.
  • Use face makeup instead of masks, which can make it hard to see.
  • Plan a route ahead of time.
  • Accept treats at the door – never go inside.
  • Walk only on the sidewalks.
  • Don’t cut across yards, use alleys, or cross between parked cars.
  • Be cautious around strange animals, especially dogs.

Check out a few trick or treat etiquette tips here.

But, most of all – have a fun, safe and

 Happy Halloween!

  • It was such an honor to work with all these incredible people these past few weeks! Sounds of Christmas and Jingle Jam were both amazing nights to help kick off the Christmas season!
  • Today marks the second week of advent where we light the faith candle. As a family we’ve been lighting our own advent wreath each evening, and it’s been an incredible way to connect and center ourselves ... to remind us of what the season is all about! In this crazy time, what do you and your family do to refresh?
  • We love our little town! The lighting of the Christmas tree is one of my favorite traditions! @franklintn @visitfranklintn
