How-To: Remove Wax From Carpet

July 14, 2012 By Sam 2 Comments

As you know, we just moved in to a beautiful new house {only 6 months ago}. Approximately 2 months into it I experienced something I never ever wish on anyone. Little man decided to get up on a chair and knock over my Scentsy warmer and wax! And what makes it worse is that I had my red Christmas scent in.

I was in the other room when this happened, and he comes walking in saying ‘Mama look’! I almost had a heart-attack thinking he cut a finger off or something, but no he was just playing with red wax. After the shock wore off and I got him cleaned up, my worry turned to my new light tan carpet, white walls, and white chair.

I did my best to scrape off the wax from every surface I could. This worked best on the wall and windowsill. Some wax scraped off the chair, and none came off the carpets.

To pull the wax up from the carpet and chair I took some good-quality Bounty paper towels and my iron. The paper towels go over the wax and then when the iron runs over it the wax heats up to be absorbed by the paper towel. This took a long time and a LOT of paper towels, but it worked pretty well.

After some online research I decided to try this method on the walls – I would not suggest it. I have yet to figure out how to get this stuff off the walls. Any tips would be welcomed!

After I got the wax out of the carpet and assessed the terrible stain damage, I got out my secret weapon. While living in our apartment I came up with a recipe for stain remover and have used nothing else since. This stuff is amazing and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone!

Mix together 1 Tbsp. Rockin’ Green Detergent and 1 Tbsp. Oxiclean with 1 C. of hot water. I use the hottest water that comes out of my tap, and then stir it up to dissolve the powders. Apply the mixture to your stain and let sit for a few minutes. Scrub with an old toothbrush or whatever you have on hand.
This stuff is amazing and I even use it in my carpet cleaner!

It’s not perfect, but it’s SO much better! If someone didn’t know the stain occurred, I don’t think they’d even notice it.

And remember, when all-else fails you can always cover it up with a rug!

How funny is this that you’ve dealt with it recently, too?! I knew to tell my friend, cause I had a red candle spill on my apartment floor in college…. We need to write Scentsy & suggest they take the dye out of their wax… No one would notice, anyway… Her spill was a Scentsy warmer, too! Grrr…. I LOVE the way your blog is looking…. lookin’ good! :)

It would be brilliant of them to take the dye out of the wax! I thought my son had cut his hand off or something with all the red wax on him. Thank goodness it doesn’t burn at least. And I’m glad you like the new look…it’s coming along! :-)
