The first few years the husband and I were married, we had very simple and low-key holidays because we were out in California far away from all of our family. Looking back, I cherish those moments in my memories and I wouldn’t do anything to change that special time we had together. But, I do love big holiday gatherings and throwing a fabulous party! Now that we live in Indiana, my husband’s family lives within 3-hours of us, and my family is a short plane ride away. We are so blessed to be able to celebrate with family now! We have sort of fallen into the habit of hosting Thanksgiving each year for the family. With the husband working at a large church, Christmas is just too crazy of a time for us to have a house full of people! I love it because Thanksgiving seems to be one of those somewhat relaxed holidays. I mean, as long as you have food, everyone is good!

I always try to bring some fun into the Thanksgiving meal in the form of fresh and new side dishes and/or desserts. We always have the traditional elements of course: turkey, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. But isn’t it fun to switch it up some? Most of these recipes I have tried and love, but some of them will be new to us this year. *gasp* I walk on the wild side!
